About the ASPB -- Plants, Genes, and Crop Biotechnology

American Society of Plant Biologists
The American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB) is a not-for-profit professional society of scientists whose research expands the existing knowledge of biological processes of plants. This knowledge results in new and more efficient practices vital to meeting the demands of the nation and the world for life-sustaining food, medicine, energy, clothing, and building materials while also seeking better protection for the environment. ASPB, formerly the American Society of Plant Physiologists, was founded in 1924 to promote the growth and development of plant science, to encourage and publish research in plant biology, and to promote the interests of plant scientists. The Society has evolved to provide a forum for molecular and cellular biology as well as to serve the basic interests of plant science.

ASPB Education Foundation
In support of the mission of ASPB, the ASPB Education Foundation was founded in 1995 to provide information and education to increase the public's knowledge about the role of plants in all areas of life. The Foundation collaborates with the Society on a number of mutually beneficial projects and complements the work of the Society by raising funds and developing programs to bring the latest information on plant biology to the general public. Together, ASPB and its Foundation are the leading source for information and expertise in plant biology education and research.
